                                                                      Happily Ever After?

He was about to achieve his greatest victory, and suffer his bitterest defeat.

Monster Reborn was negated, Osiris sent back to the graveyard. His other self had no defence, once he declared the attack it would over. All of it, forever.

" Come on Partner,do it. It will be alright, trust me Yugi."

Perhaps the tears were the mercy of a compassionate deity, dimming his sight even as his voice called out the final betrayal.

"Silent Magician! Player in direct attack!"

In that moment he saw it all with the sudden clarity of sunlight filtered through a gentle spring rain. The last scion of an ancient linege standing straight and proud, smiling triumphantly as he motioned to a face down card that surely haden't been there a moment ago..?

"Well done Partner! Reveal trap card, RING OF DESTRUCTION!!!"

Ring of Destruction? Kaiba's card?? Their life points vanished. The world went white and silent...

He awoke to the antiseptic smells and crisp white sheets of a hospital bed. The room was a bit crowded with his friends, his grandpa, doctors, nurses, and soldiers? A military hospital? Why a military hospital?!? He turned his head suddenly as a young man sat down on the edge of his bed. His eyes grew huge as a he took in the the darkly tanned coloring, the close cropped black hair with the faintest red highlights, the tufts of hair on the chin, (It was called the beard of wisdom, wasn't it? All the pharaohs wore one, or a false beard ...) large almond shaped eyes the color artists called "Burnt Sienna"... He had never truly seen this man, yet his soul cried out in recognition.

"Other Me? Atem?

"Yes Yugi. This is how I was as pharaoh. The duel ended in a draw thanks to Kaiba. We both lost, and in loosing won the true victory."

"You planned this? You and KAIBA?!"

"With some help."
Atem nodded at the soldiers. "I do not fully understand the 'science' of 'block transfer computation', but it seems to have worked."

Yugi reached out to feel the solidity of the dear friend whose final death he had expected to be mourning. Suddenly, the stress , worry, and aborted grief proved too much and something snapped. Swearing in a manner that would shock and awe a platoon of Marines, he seized Atem by the throat and began throttling him.

He was still screaming invective when the doctors pulled him off the newly regenerated pharaoh and pumped him full of sedatives...

Well    Getting closer to that Dr. Who crossover...
