Way to give fandom a black eye!
Nov. 3rd, 2010 09:00 amA little backround first. Google The Pepsi Refresh Project. It's basically a way to vote for charities that Pepsi Co. will provide grant money to. You can vote for I think ten proposals a day. There are lots of wonderful causes to choose from!
There is also a proposal for a grant of 25,000 dollars to maintain a Harry Potter fanfic web site. No, I am NOT kidding! Look, I love fandom and fanfic, we all do. But I'm sorry, I don't believe fanfic is quite as important as food and shelter for the homeless, training sevice dogs, books for kids who have no access to a library and hundreds of other things I couldn't list in a lifetime!
This is already in stupid free drama and is spreading rapidly. All of fandom will soon be tarred and feathered with this I'm sure...
In other news, last I checked we still aren't sure who will be running Illinois yet, the kids are going on a field trip tonight to see Lion King and I just told my hubby we ARE having a date night tonight!
Update: After a massive outcry, Fiction Alley, the fanfic site in question, has withdrawn their application.
