B-day Fic for Lucidscreamer
Jan. 13th, 2009 05:06 amIn the eyes of many, Kaiba Seto was an arrogant, cold hearted bastard. In the eyes of those few who could claim to know him well, Kaiba Seto was an arrogant, cold hearted, yet honorable bastard.
The effort he expended on behalf of his greatest rival, would have been expended on any of them. Yes, even on the idiot Jonouchi. The whole embarrasing situation had been caused by the criminal activities of a Kaiba CO. hotel employee, so Kaiba had been honor bound to rectify it.
Yugi's first reaction to the burglary of his hotel room had been relief that none of his valuable cards had been taken. The disapperance of a bag of dirty laundry hadn't seemed like a big deal by comparison. Until they got word of a certain e-bay auction...
For Kaiba, the fact that an employee of one of his companies would pull such a stunt was not nearly as surprising as the fact that the now ex-employee actually thought they would get away with it. Of course stern measures had to be taken to ensure such a thing would never ever happen again, but with his personally overseeing the hireing of an all new staff, he could be sure of absolute honesty and loyalty.
When Yugi was ushered into his office, Kaiba could see the incident had affected the King of Games. Outside of a duel ring, Yugi was so painfully shy, he nearly had a heart attack when Mokuba had asked him to say a few words at the start of the KC Grand Prix Tournament. Having his dirty laundry displayed on the World Wide Web in the most literal sense had driven him to punch an overly aggressive reporter in the teeth, then lock himself in his room for two days.
Kaiba handed Yugi the package that had been rushed to him by special courier. Yugi checked the contents, his face going pale then red by turns. "Kaiba, how did you get-?"
"I have some excellent investgators on my payroll Yugi. Incidently, the final bid was 1,000 U.S. dollars."
"1,000 dollars?! You payed some freak 1,000 dollars for my UNDERWEAR??!!!"
"No Yugi, I said the final bid was 1,000 dollars. I don,t give money to thieves." He held out a file folder to Yugi. " The name and address if you wish to pursue legal action."
"NO!! No, I just want this whole thing to be over... Kaiba...Thank you..."
"Yugi, let's be perfectly clear about this. I will not allow anyone to sully the reputation of my company, nor will I allow anyone to humiliate the Greatest Duelist and most honorable man I have ever met!"
"Kaiba..."
"And one last last thing Yugi, this conversation NEVER happened!"
Happy Birthday Lucid!!
